Feeling the Winter Grind?

It’s Michigan vs. Your Parking Lot.

With Michigan’s freeze-thaw cycle in full swing, your parking lot is working overtime.

Between heavy plows, salt, and constant temperature swings, winter can be brutal on

asphalt and striping.

To help extend the life of your investment—and keep your lot safe for visitors—we’ve

put together a quick Winter Parking Lot Maintenance Checklist:

• Plow with Care

Ask your snow removal team to use rubber or poly-edged blades. Steel blades can

scrape paint right off the asphalt, especially on uneven surfaces.

• Watch the Salt

While safety comes first, excessive rock salt acts like sandpaper under vehicle tires.

Consider using a liquid de-icer to help preserve the reflectivity of your striping.

• Strategic Snow Piling

Avoid piling snow over catch basins. As snow melts and refreezes, it can lead to

alligator cracking and potholes—costly repairs come spring.

• Clear the Signs

Heavy snow drifts can bend signposts. Keeping ADA (handicap) signs clear helps you

stay compliant and prevents posts from warping.

• The “Rainy Night” Test

Next time it rains, take a look at your lot. If the lines disappear under water, your paint

has likely lost its reflectivity.

Although spring may feel far away, we’re gaining over two minutes of daylight every day.

Striping season will be here before you know it.

When you’re ready, we’re here as your one-stop shop for parking lot perfection.
